Stuck In The Movement

I used David Moore’s, Pedestrians in the Wind series as a reference for this piece. I was intrigued by this particular series of images from Moore because it had captured movement in a moment of time. Movement has always been something that fascinated me, as I grew up dancing. I recognized that the only indicator of movement in the original photo was from the woman's hair being blown by the wind. I used this as a starting point and re-created the image with a modern take, hence the vans shoes instead of the heels. I have the model in my image jumping instead of walking, to mimic the movement that exists while dancing. This gives the sense that she is floating and expresses what most dancers have to portray through their movement, a light and airy presence. I decided to keep the wind blown effect alive in my images, as it is a huge aspect of the original photograph and gives the viewer a sense of momentum. By combining these two main features I was able to gain a deeper meaning and understanding for what movement is. In life, we often get caught up in the big picture rather than appreciating the beauty behind each intricate move or change that occurs. This series reminds us to stop, observe and have gratitude for the small and big movements that occur.
